Grab your bong... There is a theory that every electron in the universe, throughout all time, is just one electron.
Ok, lets science the shit out of it.
For those that don't know, an electron is a subatomic particle with a negative charge. It is considered an elementary particle as they can't be broken down into smaller particles. A typical atom from the table of elements is made up of various numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons which gives them their properties. (except for hydrogen - hydrogen is like the smallest kid in the atomic class with just one proton and one electron and is so angry about lacking a neutron, unlike all the other cool atomic kids, in a fit of rage blew up the Hindenburg).
Electrons are the worker bees of the universe when it comes to things like helping make your hair stand on end when you are electrocuted, the thoughts careening through the fatty blobs in our heads. It is involved in that magnet you implanted into your finger to let you feel magnetic fields (which themselves involve electrons), and brings the buzzy buzz of your vibrator. One property of the electron is that they are identical particles - as in your can't tell one electron from another as their properties are exactly the same in every respect.
They are so identical that it gives rise to the theory that any observed electron is actually the same electron. If I understand it properly the theory goes like this. The anti-mater of an electron is a positron - essentially you could consider this another fundamental particle with a positive charge. Now antimatter can be thought of as stuff that is going backwards in time. So the theory is the electron is really a particle that constantly going forward and backwards in time. Any time we observe an electron it is simply the same particle at a particular place at a particular time as it goes back and forth. I imagine we can only see it as an electron and not a positron as we ourselves only perceive the world moving forward in time.
So if this was correct what are the grand implications? It means that at least some of the stuff that makes up everybody and everything at any time, including every thought in our heads is the same stuff. Like John Lennon sung "I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together". The same electron that helped him think up those lyrics also is helping us process it in our own heads while also helping drive the thoughts of the first humans looking up at the stars. We may be so profoundly connected that we are literally the same cloth as the Turin Shroud. Parts of us live on in every person that has ever lived and will live in future. Most importantly though, at least some of your vibrator has been, and could simultaneously be, in anyone else's vibrator in any of their holes now and in the future.
Now you tell me quantum mechanics is not simultaneously kinky AF, and evoking a spiritual sense of wonder at our place in the universe.
